Here Is What Every Nevada Financial Institutions Division Applicant Needs to Know

By the LiveScan specialists at Fingerprinting Express, an approved vendor for the Nevada Financial Institutions Division and Nevada’s fingerprinting authority since 2003.

The short answer: Since July 16, 2025, Nevada residents applying to the Nevada Financial Institutions Division (NFID, also called FID) can no longer rely on ink fingerprint cards. The Division now requires Nevada residents to have their fingerprints captured and submitted electronically through an approved LiveScan vendor. Fingerprinting Express is one of those approved vendors, and we see NFID applicants walk through our doors in Reno, Las Vegas, and Henderson every week.

A quiet rule change with real consequences

Regulatory changes rarely make headlines, and this one was no exception. The Division announced it through a memo to Nevada residents titled “Updated fingerprinting requirements, Introduction of LiveScan,” then followed with an updated memo in January 2026 that refined how submissions are processed. Many applicants still learn about the change only after an ink card comes back unusable.

We have spent more than two decades watching Nevada agencies make this same move from paper to digital. The pattern is always the same. The applicants who understand the new process early get licensed on schedule, and the ones who do not lose weeks. Our goal with this guide is to put you in the first group.

Who this affects

The requirement reaches anyone whose NFID application calls for a fingerprint background check. In practice that usually means the owners, officers, directors, and managers listed on the application’s Personal History Record. The Division oversees a wide range of financial businesses, including:

If you are unsure whether your role requires prints, your application packet is the final word. If you are unsure which agency your license even falls under, bring your paperwork to us. Sorting that out is a conversation our team has many times a day.

The detail that trips up the most applicants

In our experience, the most common NFID mistake has nothing to do with the fingerprints themselves. It is the waiver and Fingerprint Verification Form return. The Division’s licensing pages state that the Fingerprint Background Waiver in the Personal History Record must be signed and dated before you are fingerprinted. A waiver dated after your prints leads to rejection. Sign it at your kitchen table before you leave the house, and that problem disappears. You can find the waiver and related forms on the NFID Banking licensing page.  Also make sure to return the Fingerprint Verification Form to the Division as proof of receipt of fingerprints

The second most common issue is an incorrect submission setup at the fingerprinting site. This is exactly why the Division limits Nevada residents to approved vendors, and it is where experience matters most. A spot on the approved list means a business has the equipment. It does not guarantee the training to use it well.

Fingerprinting Express is not a shipping store, a convenience store, or a watch or auto repair shop that added a scanner on the side. Fingerprinting is what we do, every single day. Our technicians handle the NFID submission details for you, so there is nothing to look up or memorize. We are the experts, so you do not have to be. Do not let the wrong vendor delay your license.

What your visit looks like

You do not need an appointment. Every Fingerprinting Express location welcomes walk ins and always has. Bring a valid, unexpired government photo ID, your signed waiver, and your application details. Our technician verifies your identity, sets up the NFID submission, and captures all ten prints digitally. Your prints travel securely to the Nevada Department of Public Safety and the FBI, and the results go directly to the Division rather than to you. Keep your receipt in case you or NFID need to trace the submission.

Your total cost includes our LiveScan service fee plus the government’s state and FBI processing fees. (Insert current FE pricing before publishing.)

Why applicants trust Fingerprinting Express with NFID prints

Fingerprinting Express has specialized in LiveScan fingerprinting in Nevada since 2003. Our fingerprint rejection rate is 0.02 percent, which means our customers almost never face the delay of being printed twice. Roughly 1,000 employers and institutions hold active accounts with us, and we are an approved vendor for agencies across the state, including the Nevada State Board of Nursing, the Nevada Real Estate Division, the Nevada Gaming Control Board, and the Cannabis Compliance Board, along with Florida’s FDLE.

Our technicians are trained in identity verification and CJIS security policy, because fingerprint data deserves the same care as the financial data our NFID customers protect every day. And through our sister brand HireHealth, employers can pair fingerprinting with drug testing, physicals, and TB testing in a single visit. We call this approach Culture To Care®: knowing the rules of every agency so our customers do not have to.
